Well, if they aren't excited about beaches, a private heated pool, bubbly Jacuzzi, late bed times and holidays on the Costa Brava, then it's time to take them to the Catalunya Adventure Park at Port Aventura. I can't believe that I have been 20 years and only went for the first time last week.
To be honest, it wasn't really my cup of tea. The thought of being with hoards of people, waiting hours for a 30 second ride never really blew my skirt up. After all, I was a pilot in the RAF.... A theme park for me was pretty "meh".
So, when Mrs Perrin informed me that we and the kids were all heading south for the day, I took it as a "hit for the team" and that at least the kids would have a good time. Boy was I wrong. Port Aventura has got everything for all ages and will keep the kids and adults happily entertained for the whole day. My advice would be to go for two days and one night staying in one of the on-site hotels before or after your holiday at CCD. My 5 and 7 year old's had the time of their life and if they hadn't been fast asleep at the end of a busy day, we would have had to peel them away from the resort.
There are themes to the park and I wouldn't go during the summer holiday season. The waiting times can be traumatic. Out of season, we rarely waited for more than 30 minutes for a ride and more often than not walked straight on. There are displays dotted around showing you the waiting time for each ride so you can plan you day having fun instead of waiting in a queue.
This ride had a pretty impressive 0-135kph in 3.5 secs.
My youngest (5 years old) loved this part of the park. There were plenty of things for her to do here.
The rides here are gentle but not lame. Each ride throughout the park comes with a height restriction so that you area aware if the kids can go alone, have to be accompanied or are just too little for that particular ride.
My 7 year old wanted to go on this one but, unfortunately, she was not quite tall enough. In solidarity with her, I elected not to give this one a go either.....
All in all, a great day out with the family and we highly recommend it. It's based in Salou near to Tarragona, which is about an hour south of Barcelona.
